Favorites that stay

Drag a mounted share into the Finder sidebar and it works until the share goes away. After sleep, a network change or a server restart, macOS often mounts it again at a new path such as Share-1 or Share (2). The favorite still points at the old one and quietly disappears.

Star a share in KreaMounter and it gets one folder on your Mac that always exists. It mounts there every time, under the same name. Ejecting leaves the folder in place, so a favorite on it has nothing to lose. Drag that folder into the sidebar once.

Mount when it makes sense

Mount rules decide when shares connect. Shares eject when the server goes away and come back when it returns.

  • Network interface

    Only on Wi-Fi at home, or only on the office Ethernet port.

  • Power adapter

    Only when the Mac is plugged in.

  • External display

    Only at the desk.

  • App is open

    While a certain app is running.

  • Volume is mounted

    When another disk or share is there.
